Dharma Talks / Doorways to Peace (The Five Powers)

Sr Thuần Khánh

Sr Thuan Khanh gives a dharma talk on how to keep our bodhicitta alive while going through difficulties. Bodhicitta is the essence or vitality of a practitioner and form the basis of our wholesome actions.

It is important to start practicing before we encounter difficulties and to be in an environment that supports our bodhicitta to grow. We need to have gratitude for the things in daily life. Sr Thuan Khanh recalls a story where she received a transmission of love, compassion and safety from our teacher. It became a truth that never goes away, regardless of circumstances. Sr Thuan Khanh teaches about the Five Powers (faith, diligence, mindfulness, concentration and insight) that nourish our bodhicitta. Through these teachings, she tells inspiring stories of how difficult situations can become a doorway to peace. She talks about the importance of returning to the basic practices, how she regained her smile after losing faith in humanity. She urges us to really try the practices for ourselves and ends with a teaching on the Jungle Thicket Sutra, which is about what key elements to consider while deciding whether to stay at a practice location.
