How Plum Village has been Living during the Pandemic

Plum Village has been extra vigilant in preventing the spreading of Covid-19 virus since the very beginning of the pandemic. We have been closed to the public since March 2020, living in confinement and following the rules and restrictions of the French government carefully. We have cancelled all of our retreats and trips since 2020, and only offer online events at the moment. If a member enters the boundaries of the Plum Village hamlets after travelling, they are required to go through a 14-day quarantine in our designated quarantine quarters and live separately from the community. On the 12th day, they are required to have a test before fully entering the community. Our communal way of living, and the large number of members who live among us, makes our community especially vulnerable to the transmission of the Covid-19 virus, therefore our strict measures protect us, as well as on a more wider regional level. Our confinement means that we do not need to wear a mask around fellow community members of Plum Village, nor follow social distancing, but we follow these two safety protocols, as well as use hand sanitizer/soap when we leave the boundaries of Plum Village for essential reasons. When we need to have visitors come inside the Plum Village boundaries for the day, such as for maintenance work, construction, inspections, important meetings and deliveries, they are required to all wear a mask and respect social distancing

It is truly unfortunate that we are not able to open our doors and offer retreats to the thousands of people who enjoy coming to Plum Village each year or those who wish to try a retreat for the first time. We enjoy staying connected online with our friends around the globe through sharing photos and videos of our community life, and we know that these are appreciated very much. We hope that by sharing our photos and videos of community life, articles, dharma talks, offering resources via the App and offering regular online retreats, we can still inspire and nourish your practice wherever you are.

Thank you for your understanding and support to our community. We feel a lot of gratitude to all of you who have given us financial and moral support and also for your continuing practice in your own lives, generating happiness and peace, which is very necessary at the moment for the world.
