New Hamlet - Plum Village

The sisters of the New Hamlet would like to invite you to join our Cooking in Mindfulness retreat from 1 June to 8 June 2019.

This week-long retreat is based on the requests of many friends who have been to New Hamlet and enjoyed the meals so much that they are inspired to become vegetarians or vegan after their retreat.

It is also a response to requests of many friends who thoroughly enjoyed the previous mindful cooking retreats, as well as from those who missed out the previous ones.

In this retreat, together we’ll learn how to practice mindfulness while cooking and preparing food; how to cultivate healthy eating habits, as well as cultivating joy as nourishment, both for our selves and our loved ones.

You will be shown step by step how to prepare some popular dishes that are much loved at New Hamlet. You will also have a chance to practice sitting meditation, walking meditation, eating in silence, doing exercises, listening to Dharma talks, practicing noble silence, sharing in families, and learning the art of mindful cooking.

Main languages: English / French/ Vietnamese, with translation to English and French whenever needed. Everyone is welcome to join, particularly those who love cooking, eating, and practicing mindfulness in their daily life.
Please note:
  • New Hamlet is a nunnery, where we usually welcome women and families. In this special retreat, as the weather is permits, we would like to also welcome single men if they either prepare to camp, come with their own camper van, or to commute.
  • The week 1 June – 8 June is a special week in Plum Village. New Hamlet will be hosting this joyful mindful cooking retreat, and Upper Hamlet and Lower Hamlet will host the International Business Retreat. Please note that these are two distinct retreats, in separate hamlets, with no shared activities. 
  • If you have participated in any Plum Village retreats before and would like to come to be a volunteer in this retreat, you may write to the Volunteers’ Team at nh-volunteers@plumvillage.org. It is with the help of volunteers that we can welcome friends from all over the world to the Mindful Cooking Retreat.
