The Path – the way of liberation arises right in the midst of present suffering: There is no need to go far; that path is precisely the Noble Eightfold Path, beginning with Right View – a direct understanding of the Four Noble Truths. The path is not separate from suffering, but only arises when we dare to “face” suffering, contemplating it as the lotus must grow from the mud. If we run away, the method of practice cannot be found, because suffering is the necessary condition for the path to be revealed.

Right View and the practice of listening, reflecting, and practicing:

  1. Listening – learning through hearing teachings and reading books to grasp the concepts of suffering, its origin, cessation, and the path.
  2. Reflecting – contemplating and looking deeply with wisdom, calling suffering by its true name and seeing clearly its causes (origin) in order to see the possibility of cessation.
  3. Practicing – applying mindfulness in sitting meditation, walking meditation, eating in silence, cleaning… “putting the practice into action” by asking, “What am I doing?” so that each action becomes a miracle, transforming suffering into peace and leading to the realization of ultimate truth.
