"Embodying the Dharma: The Journey of Kinh and the Power of Compassion"
This talk details the story of Kinh from North Vietnam, who admired monks and aspired to live by the Dharma despite societal constraints. Her arranged marriage to Thien Shih, a promising student, did not deter her longing for monkhood. Eventually, she disguised herself as a man, became a novice monk named Kintam, and embodied reverence and mindfulness. A wealthy family’s daughter fell in love with Kintam’s inner beauty, leading to misunderstandings and accusations. Despite criticism, Kintam cared for an abandoned baby, practicing compassion and mindfulness. The story illustrates Buddhist teachings on forbearance, expanding one’s heart through loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity to endure injustice and cultivate peace.
