This talk details cultivating peace, joy, and happiness through mindfulness practices at Plum Village. Practitioners consciously breathe in peace, joy, and happiness, nurturing these qualities with each breath and step. Sitting peacefully embodies stability, freedom, and peace. Gathas, classical Chinese poems of four lines with five words each, totaling about 20 characters, are memorized to practice mindfulness in everyday activities like brushing teeth and appreciating flowing water. Mindfulness brings awareness, allowing practitioners to deeply engage with life’s richness and beauty. Through mindful breathing, tension and pain are released, fostering joy and peace. Happiness arises naturally by appreciating life’s wonders and practicing mindfulness in simple acts. Monks cultivate spirituality and ethics, emphasizing inner work and mindfulness to nurture compassion and stability in society. Every moment is an opportunity for mindfulness, bringing happiness to oneself and others.
