KT Tn - Kim Son
Individualism today causes each person to only care for themselves, lacking the aspiration to care for others. In the Buddhist community, Sangha building is the most important work. Practitioners dedicate to life the fruits of solidity, freedom, understanding, and love. Solidity is immovable, freedom is liberation, only achieved when living in concentration. When a person is seen sweeping leaves, smiling, and interacting with others, they inspire trust and happiness.
Plum Village has developed the second body method, where each person only needs to care for one person in the Sangha. Each person is responsible for the presence, pain, and suffering of their second body. The “Sangha eyes” method helps to see oneself through the eyes of the community, overcoming the limits of personal perspective. When seeking insight, we kneel down and use our mind to request illumination from others. The person being consulted, with compassion, will point out weaknesses and talents.
Building Kim Son as a family is an important goal, where everyone accepts and loves each other as siblings, with the teacher as the father. Only then can we become a refuge for everyone outside. Precepts and decorum are the foundation, like mother and father, needing vibrant energy to create joy. Chanting, sitting meditation, cooking, or sweeping leaves all aim to fulfill one purpose: living fully in the present moment. Happiness is not a gift from outside, but the result of effort and creation from within ourselves.
