Three daily practices to bring freedom and joy into every moment:

  1. Tooth brushing – brush as a free person, fully present and enjoying each second.
  2. Taking a shower – invest 100 % of yourself: handle soap and water like a Buddha, rooted in the here and now.
  3. Using the toilet – recognize even this simple act as Dharma, cultivating freedom and dignity in daily life.
These same mindfulness techniques apply to walking, eating, cooking—and remind us that “happiness is the way.”

In November 1998 the UN General Assembly voted to make 2001–2010 the Decade for a Culture of Peace & Non-Violence for the Children of the World, following an appeal by Nobel Peace Prize laureates. They called for the Year 2000 to inaugurate Education for Non-Violence at every level, aiming to reduce children’s suffering and build a new culture of hope.

Building on the Fourth and Fifth Mindfulness Trainings, the Third Mindfulness Training addresses sexual misconduct by
• raising awareness of suffering caused by unloving sexual acts
• cultivating responsibility, understanding, and compassion
• vowing to engage in sexual relations only with love and long-term commitment
• protecting children from sexual abuse and preventing couples and families from being broken.
Practical discussions within families and communities are essential to embody this training.
