Presence and Compassion Through Mindfulness
The details of this discussion include teaching children to invite the bell to begin their practice, exhaling three times before and after ringing the bell. The importance of being fully present in order to truly love is emphasized, by practicing mindful breathing and offering one’s presence as a gift. Using eyes, ears, and hands to recognize and relieve suffering is essential, embodied by the bodhisattvas Avalokiteshvara and Manjusri. Mindfulness meditation, practiced in movement or sitting, helps to unite body and mind, allowing one to touch the wonders of life and transform suffering into joy. Mindfulness transforms negative states into positive ones, transcending the notions of birth and death. Walking meditation under the linden tree uses simple gathas to express gratitude towards the Earth.
