This Is Because That Is
The details of this discussion focus on understanding and transforming suffering into love and compassion, taking example from the Buddhas encountered in Pugny. Understanding inner and outer suffering is essential, reflecting the wisdom of non-self and non-discrimination. Meditation helps to develop this understanding, bringing us closer to the wisdom of the Buddha, nirvikampajjana. Thich Nhat Hanh illustrates these concepts with poems learned as a child, emphasizing the interconnection and cooperation of the five fingers of the hand. Suffering and happiness are interdependent, like the lotus and the mud. Cultivating mindfulness helps to transform suffering into happiness by practicing four breathing exercises: recognizing the in-breath and the out-breath, following the breath, being aware of the whole body, and releasing tensions. Mindfulness allows us to appreciate the present conditions of happiness and to transform negative seeds into positive energy. Collective practice strengthens this benevolent energy, facilitating the healing and transformation of suffering into happiness.
