10 Mindful Movements

Chanting before the Dharma talk is “a true offering from the heart,” creating the strength of the sangha and the joy of well-being; after the Buddha attained enlightenment, he found his first sangha of only six people, including Ananda, to practice together. “Dwelling together in harmony” is the first foundation: living together for 24 hours in the monastery—where three hundred people walk side by side, even if there is anger, they do not separate from each other. This is a great step forward on the path of harmonious practice that has existed for more than 2,500 years.

The precepts are not chains but “doors of freedom,” each precept opening a unique “particular liberation”: not drinking alcohol helps us not be dominated by alcohol, not lying protects our precious trust, and other precepts such as Bhikshu precepts, Patimokkha… all lead to true freedom. Inner freedom is tested when we can fully dwell, smile at a flower or the moon, and make decisions from a place of freedom rather than being swept away by fleeting emotions.

Building a happy sangha based on the Six Harmonies:
- Harmony in dwelling together
- Harmony in speech, no arguing
- Harmony of mind, mutual joy
- Harmony in views, shared understanding
- Harmony in sharing benefits
Each brother and sister needs a “profile” to recognize and take care of each other in time, nurturing compassion and mindfulness; a harmonious sangha is the greatest gift we can offer to the world.
