4 Nutriments: 4 Elements of Love
This talk details the ordination of 25 novices in Plum Village and the essence of monastic life, emphasizing simplicity, communal living, mindfulness, and letting go of societal pressures. Mindfulness enhances health, relationships, and career, aligning work with values. Mindful consumption, crucial for well-being, involves the Buddha’s teachings on the four types of nutriments: edible food, sense impressions, volition, and consciousness. Eating mindfully promotes compassion and environmental preservation. Relationships thrive on mindfulness, loving kindness (maitri), compassion (karuna), joy (mudita), and inclusiveness (upeksha). Mindfulness practices help alleviate suffering, fostering understanding and compassion. True love embodies maitri, karuna, mudita, and upeksha, embracing all beings with compassion and understanding.
