4th day of Retreat 'Coming together in Family, School, and Society'
May 19, 2011. A 92-minute Dharma talk in English with consecutive German translation, given by Thich Nhat Hanh during the German Retreat at the European Institute of Applied Buddhism in Waldbröl, Germany.
The talk explores verses of practice—Gathas—many drawn from the Avatamsaka Sutra, and introduces new Gathas for modern life such as using the telephone and riding a bicycle. Thay continues his teaching on right view through the pairs of opposites: being/non-being, birth/death, coming/going, and sameness/otherness. In the final fifteen minutes he offers guidance on education and mindfulness.
