Right view is the perception that accords with reality, not the fabrications of the mind, not the discriminations of illusion, nor the influences from others. Wrong perception—loving the image in our head instead of the real object—leads to suffering; for example, a young man falls in love with a young woman only through the image he has created, or we think we love the Buddha, God, or Christ but in fact only love our imagined image.

The method to cut off all wrong perceptions is “whatever arises, cut it off immediately”: sever the head of the notion about Buddha, ancestors, parents… in order to overcome all conceptual attachments and return to reality itself. Practicing mindfulness in each breath, each step, each small action—cooking rice, carrying water, sweeping the floor—is the miracle that brings us into freedom right here and now, without needing to search outside.
