Day of Mindfulness - At Kim Son
On September 14, 1997, Thich Nhat Hanh spoke about the ability to live happily in the present moment despite the existence of pain and sorrow. He emphasized the teaching “Drista dharma sukha vihari,” which means living happily in the present. He used the image of a boat filled with rocks to illustrate the ability to overcome suffering. He also shared the story of a man who lost his child to emphasize the importance of caring for the loved ones who are still alive. He encouraged the practice of mindful breathing and recognizing healthy eyes as a source of happiness. He warned about the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, emphasizing the need to avoid harmful consumption and family communication. He also introduced the book “Chanting from the Heart” and highlighted the value of communication and education within the family. He concluded with a prayer for peace and a vow to abstain from drinking alcohol and smoking.
