Dharma Talk 4
Today, July 26, 1994, in Lower Hamlet, Queen Sukhothai Nguyen declares this day to focus solely on mindfulness and presence. Embrace each moment with joy, practicing mindfulness to cultivate happiness, love, understanding, and friendship. The Vietnamese character for mindfulness, “Kim,” signifies the present moment and can be practiced through a mudra. Mindfulness is the essence of heart, mind, and spirit, fostering deep connection and healing. Practice mindfulness through breathing, meditation, and unity of body, speech, and mind. Two transformative mantras are emphasized: “Darling, I am there for you” and “Darling, I see your suffering.” Mindfulness aids in practicing right view, speech, livelihood, and action, forming the essence of Buddhist teachings. Insight transcends words, requiring mindfulness, concentration, and deep understanding. The Noble Eightfold Path emphasizes integrating mindfulness into daily life, fostering right livelihood and compassionate actions. The Buddha valued profound silence, illustrating wisdom beyond words. Zen teachings highlight direct experience over intellectual knowledge, emphasizing mindfulness in everyday actions. The essence of ultimate right view is practicing teachings without clinging to notions and words.
