Spirituality begins with attention, mindfulness, and concentration in every gesture of daily life: walking, eating, breathing, or listening to the sound of the bell. Where there is mindfulness, understanding, and love, “that is God.” This energy makes life real for you, allows you to live each moment deeply, and to establish happiness in body and mind.

To practice is to generate the energy of mindfulness twenty-four hours a day:

  • by sitting and breathing to release tension and pain,
  • by smiling to every unpleasant sensation in order to transform it,
  • by walking in joy and peace rather than in suffering.
    This practice, pleasant and not forced, brings about deep insight capable of liberating us from fear and suffering.

Deep insight and non-birth/non-death manifest in “interbeing” with the sky, the clouds, the ancestors: you are made of 70% clouds, your ancestors live in you with every breath. In Buddhism, the three jewels inter-are:

  1. the Buddha
  2. the Dharma
  3. the Sangha
