We
speak
a
lot
about
mindfulness
and
looking
deeply
here,
and
we
see
how
that
benefits
society.
But
my
question
is,
in
a
society
that
depends
on
productivity,
how
do
lay
people,
for
example,
begin
to
integrate
mindfulness
practices
into
the
workplace
in
the
face
of
numerous
consequences,
such
as
being
fired
for
not
working
fast
enough?
Or
if
you're
overloaded
at
work,
what
can
you
say
to
your
supervisor
so
that
you
can
work
more
mindfully?
You
are
mindful
that
there
is
a
lot
of
stress
in
the
workplace.
You
are
mindful
that
the
other
person,
including
the
head,
suffers.
That
mindfulness
is
the
beginning.
If
you
are
not
aware
of
it,
you
will
never
try
to
solve
the
problem.
So
the
beginning
is
to
become
aware
of
the
problem,
the
difficulties.
Awareness,
mindfulness
is
very
important.
But
that
kind
of
awareness,
mindfulness
will
lead
to
some
kind
of
concentration.
You
focus
your
attention
on
the
problem.
That
is
reality.
That
is
what
is
happening,
involving
a
lot
of
suffering.
So
looking
deeply
like
that
is
to
find
a
solution.
To
find
a
solution
for
yourself
and
for
other
people,
because
you
are
not
the
only
one
who
suffers
in
the
workplace.
Your
boss
is
also
suffering,
and
your
colleagues
are
also
suffering.
And
something
may
be
possible
that
everyone
in
the
workplace
is
aware
that
there
is
suffering,
stress
for
everyone.
And
if
everyone
is
aware
of
that,
everyone
is
motivated
by
the
desire
to
do
something
or
to
stop,
in
order
for
the
suffering
not
to
continue.
So
you
have
awareness,
you
have
mindfulness,
and
you
may
like
to
help
all
the
other
people
in
the
workplace
to
be
aware
of
the
same
thing.
And
everything
comes
from
that
kind
of
awareness
and
mindfulness.
And
if
the
desire
to
change
is
there,
then
there
is
a
possibility
of
changing.
Because
with
your
effort
to
please
the
director
and
with
the
effort
of
the
director
to
have
you
work
harder,
that
will
lead
only
to
more
suffering.
And
then
you
decide
to
change,
and
that
is
insight.
If
there
is
some
kind
of
relaxation,
if
we
can
produce
a
moment
of
relaxation,
if
we
know
how
to
use
deep
listening
and
loving
speech,
we
can
begin
a
kind
of
communication.
And
to
help
people
become
aware
of
the
situation
where
everyone
suffers.
And
only
with
that
kind
of
communication
and
mutual
understanding
this
change
can
be
possible.
There
is
no
other
way.
The
way
of
mindfulness,
concentration,
and
insight.
But
if
you
are
not
capable
of
producing
that
kind
of
compassion,
relaxation
in
you,
it's
very
difficult
to
start
the
kind
of
communication
that
will
bring
about
mutual
understanding.
So
it's
very
important
that
we
learn
how
to
breathe
mindfully
and
relaxingly,
how
to
recognize
the
emotion,
the
painful
feeling
in
us.
And
before
we
can
do
that,
we
cannot
do
anything.
We
have
to
bring
in
some
peace,
some
compassion
into
us
before
we
can
start
a
kind
of
dialogue
with
other
people
in
the
workplace
so
that
they
can
see
that
everyone
is
suffering,
that
it's
not
good
to
continue
like
this.
And
mindfulness,
concentration
will
bring
about
that
kind
of
relaxation,
compassion,
relaxation
that
can
help
you
to
start
a
kind
of
communication.
And
if
the
communication
is
successful,
there
will
be
a
mutual,
collective
insight.
And
if
that
insight
is
solid,
there
will
be
a
change.
And
if
we
continue
to
blame,
there
will
be
no
end
to
the
suffering.
So
mindfulness,
concentration,
and
insight
should
be
started
by
us.
And
then
we
will
help
the
other
people
in
the
workplace
to
do
the
same.
I
think
this
can
be
applied
to
every
situation.
It's
like
in
Plum
Village.
Plum
Village
is
a
practice
center,
and
we
want
to
improve
the
way
of
life
in
Plum
Village.
There
is
a
residential
community
living
permanently
in
Plum
Village.
And
we
know
that
if
that
community
is
happy,
harmonious,
we
can
serve
our
friends
much
better.
And
we
always
seek
to
improve
the
quality
of
brotherhood,
sisterhood,
the
way
of
taking
care
of
the
center.
And
in
order
to
do
that,
we
eat
together,
we
walk
together,
we
sit
together,
and
we
share
with
each
other
in
an
atmosphere
of
peace,
of
brotherhood
and
sisterhood.
If
we
only
fight
during
the
meeting,
we
arrive
nowhere.
So
everyone
has
to
practice
mindful
breathing,
total
relaxation,
bringing
about
some
more
compassion
and
understanding,
and
then
communication
will
be
possible.
And
only
with
one
meeting,
half
an
hour,
we
can
solve
a
lot
of
problems.
So
we
should
not
only
talk
about
mindfulness
and
concentration.
We
have
to
do
it.
