The Cam Lo Meditation Hall is warmed by the merit of the Taiwanese lay Buddhists, marking fifteen days before Christmas and opening the winter retreat. The energy of the Sangha only arises when each individual is truly present with the quality of mindfulness, from each meal to walking meditation. Supportive conditions such as a “sitting mate” help maintain diligence; each person has the responsibility to contribute to the collective energy, and if absent, the Sangha is left hungry.

King Tran Thai Tong began his practice at the age of twenty, practicing the Six Times Repentance Ritual six times a day and establishing the Ta Nhai Institute to invite Dharma teachers to transmit the lineage:

  • Zen Master Truc Lam (National Teacher) on Yen Tu Mountain
  • Zen Masters Tuc Lu, Ung Thuan, Dai Dang, Thien Phong, and Thuong Chieu – synthesizing the quintessence of five Zen schools: Tang Hoi, Bodhidharma–Huike, Ty Ni Da Luu Chi, Thao Duong, and Vo Ngon Thong

From the practice of interbeing and interpenetration to the composition of six important works, each containing his wholeheartedness and methods of meditation:

  • Guide to Zen Buddhism (Thien Tong Chi Nam)
  • Commentary on the Diamond Samadhi Sutra (Kim Cuong Tam Muoi Kinh Chu Giai)
  • Six Times Repentance Ritual (Luc Thoi Sam Hoi Khoa Nghi)
  • Equal Repentance Text (Binh Dang Le Sam Van)
  • Collection of Emptiness (Khoa Hu Luc)
  • Poetry collection
