La Plena Consciencia de la Respiración
Thich Nhat Hanh answers questions during a retreat in Plum Village (May, 2014). Questions addressed include: What does God look like? How can I trust myself? Our son suffers from psychosis. Can you help us understand and help him? What should you do when the teacher makes fun of you and the whole class laughs about you? What is God? Have you ever been able to calm down a person who is completely in rage? Deep down I feel this really powerful, crazy energy I cannot control. How can I focus this energy and do something for the world? How can I bring healing to people who have a lot of sadness and loneliness in their hearts? How can I fall asleep quickly if I need to wake up very early the next day? When I get angry how do I let my anger out? Why do you say ‘be yourself, be beautiful’? Sometimes we are not beautiful and have to use make-up or take care of our hair. How can you be so confident in your body? In my body there are always things I don’t like. When you have arrived on the other shore, do you still think or suffer? If Buddhism supports love for Mother Nature why doesn’t it also support romantic love between two people and demonstrations of affection between two people? What was the biggest notion that you have overcome in your life? In my own - Japanese - tradition, we do not smile, but in Plum Village we do a lot. I like both. How can I combine them? In Plum Village we are invited to ‘transform our superiority, inferiority and equality complex.’ What is the equality complex? Isn’t equality a good thing? How do you understand the process of surrendering to God’s will? How do I stay in the present moment when it feels unbearable? How can I fight the injustices of this world without being consumed with anger, bitterness, outrage and resentment? It hurts me when I hear about animal suffering. I just don’t understand how to get past it. I try to help but feel helpless at times. What can I do?
