The details of this discussion highlight the importance of mindfulness and concentration to transform oneself and one’s environment. A mantra, a sacred formula recited with deep concentration, is essential in moments of great suffering. True presence is the most beautiful gift to offer a loved one. A 12-year-old boy recognized that his father’s presence was more precious than material wealth. Practicing conscious breathing allows us to offer this precious gift. Teaching mantras like “Darling, I am truly here for you” helps cultivate love and appreciation. Recognizing and celebrating the presence of others deeply nourishes. Scientists acknowledge the complexity of each being. Buddhist meditation is based on the non-dual view of emotions. Recognizing and gently dealing with anger gradually transforms these disturbing emotions. Meditation helps explore and understand our sufferings. The cessation of suffering requires identifying and eliminating its sources of nourishment. The five mindfulness trainings offer wisdom and protection. Practicing maitri, karuna, mudita, and upeksha nourishes true love. Avalokiteshvara symbolizes deep listening and compassion. The fragile beauty of nature reminds us of the joy of the present moment.
