Living Happily in the Present Moment
This title has been reviewed for accuracy.
Thầy begins with the story of a corn seed to teach the children about continuation. He then turns to the question of how to live happily in the present moment, exploring how the energies of mindfulness, concentration, and insight can be cultivated through the first four of the sixteen exercises of mindful breathing from the Discourse on the Full Awareness of Breathing (Ānāpānasati Sutta).
Thay underlines that we already have more than enough conditions to be happy, and invites us to sit with an important question: “Dear friend, do you think that the most wonderful moment of your life has arrived or not?” Through the practice of the first four exercises, we arrive at the insight that we are alive — and that to be alive is the greatest miracle. Thay teaches that meditation is, first of all, the act of stopping, releasing, and calming, and that if we know how to take care of our body, we will know how to take care of our feelings.
This is second talk in a series of three given during the Peaceful Mind and Open Heart retreat in the year 2010. Thầy offered this talk at the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, Singapore.
