Meditation Practice with the Foundation of Love - The Vitality of Youth
We practice the meditation of “breathing for mother, for father, for teacher, for the sangha” in order to offer love, to recognize and to transform sorrow, anger, and despair, and to nourish happiness right in the present moment.
The sangha is not only outside but also deeply present within our mind; it is a place of refuge for practicing love and nurturing our aspiration. Practice is not only about sitting still; it must be rich in love, avoiding mechanicalness, awakening the creative energy of young people, and not letting sadness dominate. When sitting meditation, we aim for the seventh consciousness, using mindfulness of the Buddha and the Bodhisattvas to transform our karma, attracting the energy of compassion and wisdom so that the storm does not go off course.
The “Meditation Manual for Young People” now has 30 chapters, introducing the Five Mindfulness Trainings as the path of practicing love:
- Protecting life
- Not taking what is not given, practicing generosity
- Protecting families, avoiding sexual misconduct
- Loving speech and deep listening
- Mindful consumption
Money and power are means: for practitioners, they help us to serve; for those who do not practice, they bring suffering. Keep your mind peaceful in each breath, in every moment of mindfulness.
