Mindful Consumption and the Path to Compassionate Living
This title has been reviewed for accuracy.
Thầy gives an in-depth teaching on the practice of the Six Paramitas: Dānapāramitā, the practice of giving, prajñāpāramitā, the practice of understanding, dhyānapāramitā, the practice of meditation, śīlapāramitā, the practice of ethics, kṣāntipāramitā, the cultivation of an inclusive heart, and vīryapāramitā, the practice of right diligence. Thầy explains that if you practice one paramita deeply, you are also practicing the others. Thay invites us to focus our attention on the practice of giving, because the practice of giving can help transform all the negative energies in us.
Thầy also shares about the art of compassionate listening, loving speech and how to embrace and handle our pain and see the interbeing of pain and happiness.
This is the fifth talk in a series of five given during the Pain, Love and Happiness retreat, in the year 1997. Thầy offered this talk at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in the United States.
