Body, Speech, and Mind in Perfect Oneness
Thay shares the practice of inviting the bell, emphasizing that the bell master should be calm and solid, inspiring people to practice. He provides instruction on both inviting and listening to the bell, encouraging us to listen to the wonderful sound of the bell, calling us back to our true home.
Thay discusses the practice of mindfulness of breathing, highlighting its simplicity and its ability to help us release the past and future, bringing immediate freedom, insight, nourishment, and healing.
In this talk, Thay addresses the first eight breathing exercises from the Sutra on the Full Awareness of Breathing (Anapanasati Sutta). Thay elaborates on the four aspects of right diligence: recognizing negative seeds and preventing them from arising from store consciousness to mind consciousness, embracing and inviting negative formations to go back down if they have arisen, inviting good seeds to come up, and maintaining good mental formations for a long time.
This is the second talk in a series of five given during the Together We Are One, Nurturing the Beloved Community retreat in the year 2011. Thay offered this talk at Deer Park Monastery, Escondido, California, in the United States.
