On the fifth day of the “Happiness is Here and Now” Retreat at the YMCA of Hong Kong on Sunday, November 7th, 2010, Thay teaches how to touch nirvana and no-birth no-death through the practice of three types of concentration.

“In Buddhism we like to speak in terms of manifestation and non-manifestation instead of creation and destruction… We speak about the non-duality of the subject and the object of consciousness. Buddha and living beings interare. You cannot take living beings out of the Buddha and you cannot take the Buddha out of living beings. Many Christian mystics have been able to touch this non-duality. These Christian mystics do not see God as something outside.”

On the fourth day of the “Happiness is Here and Now” Retreat at the YMCA of Hong Kong on Sunday, November 7th, 2010, Thay speaks on the teaching of being free from a separate self.

“You are a flower in the garden of humanity. You are made of non-you elements. You are made of father, mother, ancestors, food, education. If you remove all these non-you elements, there is no you left. So when you look into the lotus and see the mud, you know that the mud is essential for the lotus to be. So you have no further discrimination against the mud. This insight is so crucial for us to be happy, because if you see things in a dualistic way there will always be discrimination, separation, violence and fear.”
