Diana has a mother who is 80 years old and a father who is 78. Her mother was once a nun for 20 years before leaving monastic life to start a family. After coming to Plum Village and practicing walking meditation in a wheelchair, she felt as if she had become a nun once again; it was the nourishment of mindfulness, brotherhood and sisterhood, and the Dharma doors of practice at the monastery that rekindled her happiness and aspiration to dedicate her whole life to monasticism.

The monastery needs to retain young monastics by providing at the same time

  • food to eat
  • a bed to sleep in
  • teachings and Dharma doors for practice
and by organizing deep Dharma discussions, in which at least three important topics are:
  1. how to help monastics not to abandon the path halfway
  2. preserving energy through scientific scheduling and sufficient rest
  3. maintaining humility, the attitude of obedience without coercion, as well as upholding harmony and joy in the Sangha.

In 2007, the construction of the European Institute of Applied Buddhism began, offering a Master of Buddhist Studies and Practice, granting certificates to both monastic and lay Dharma teachers; at the same time, the leadership team was consolidated: Sister Thieu Nghiem at Blue Cliff (female branch) assisted by Sister An Nghiem, Brother Phap Nguyen and Brother Phap Khoi responsible for the male branch, and Sister Linh Nghiem as the abbess of New Hamlet.
