The details of this talk took place during the summer retreat at Upper Hamlet, Plum Village, where Thich Nhat Hanh emphasized the importance of reconciliation between parents and children, between spouses, and between groups and nations, starting from each individual’s body and mind. He noted that peace originates from personal practices such as mindful breathing and mindful walking. Peace conferences between nations lack the elements of practice and walking meditation, leading to failure. He encouraged early spiritual education to build a civilized society and train spiritual teachers. He shared that peace comes not only from the mind but also from the heart, body, and soul. He spoke about Bodhisattva Wonderful Sound and how music can serve the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. He also emphasized that the practicing community needs harmony and mutual understanding, drawing inspiration from nature and animals. He concluded that caring for the environment and the community is a shared responsibility to protect the earth and achieve happiness.
