We begin with questions from the children during the last Dharma talk of the summer retreat:

  1. When people are aggressive or irritating, how does one act not to be violent towards them?
  2. How is it possible to write so many books and keep coming up with new ideas?
  3. Why do monks and nuns have to shave their heads?
  4. Why must breakfast be eaten so early?
  5. How is it possible to manage to stay so calm?
  6. How does one stop when feeling annoyed?

Followed by questions from the adults:

  1. What is the reason for being born and what is the purpose of life?
  2. When feeling resentment and lacking the stability to face a situation of misunderstanding and anger, how can the resulting internal conflict be handled?
  3. Why does one seem to bring out the worst in people who are otherwise seen as good and compassionate, and why do they seem to dislike one so much?
  4. How does one love without attachment, desiring freedom for the beloved, and letting go without causing suffering?
  5. How does one deal with letting go, suffering, and impermanence when facing the loss of a beloved person, or the eventual passing of the teacher?
  6. When intolerance and judgment arise because Sangha members do not respect silence or the practice, should one open their heart to become tolerant?
