Retreat for the Buddhist Youth Association, Session 4
The details of this talk focus on listening and using loving speech to alleviate the suffering of others, similar to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. Thich Nhat Hanh emphasizes that listening with compassion helps avoid negative emotions and improves the ability to understand and share the pain of others. He also shares about writing poetry as a method to convey feelings of peace and mindfulness. He particularly stresses the importance of the Five Precepts in Buddhism, especially the fourth precept (loving speech and deep listening) and the fifth precept (mindful consumption). He encourages everyone to practice the Five Precepts to achieve peace and happiness. The Buddhist communities and practitioners express deep gratitude to Thay for this special retreat and his dedicated guidance. Special thanks are extended to those who supported the retreat, especially the family of Brother Hung, Sister Tuyet Khoa, and the Boston Buddhist community.
