Sharing About Creating the Plum Village Website (2)
The four daily activities cannot be separated but must be integrated as one, supporting each other:
- Learning is not only reading books or listening to teachings, but in the very act of learning, we are already practicing.
- Practicing means applying what we have learned in order to continue learning.
- Playing should be a way of playing that brings happiness; while playing, we are still learning and practicing (sitting meditation, walking meditation as forms of play).
- Working should be done in such a way that while working, we are still learning, practicing, and playing, so as to avoid burn-out.
The electronic Plum Village monastery is a collective “game” that helps us to learn, practice, and serve, always open to thousands of people every day, even when the sangha is sleeping. By participating online, practitioners can:
- recite the precepts on the 14th, 30th, or on Sundays in the middle or at the end of the week
- eat a mindful meal in the Five Contemplations Hall with three bells and the Five Contemplations before the meal
- sit meditation, practice Deep Relaxation in the Meditation Hall with audio guidance, take a nap and continue to relax
- chant sutras, listen to chanting music and Dharma songs in the Buddha Hall
- listen to Dharma talks in the Dharma Hall (on Thursdays, Sundays, or at any time)
- consult sutras and commentaries in the Sutra Library with dozens of translated sutras
- ask questions and exchange inquiries in the Consultation Hall
Visitors to the monastery are also guided through the Three Gates and then invited to visit each area: meditation hall, lotus pond, bell tower, library, monks’ residence… Each space is a digital designation, with someone to welcome, bell music, and a list of activities so that practitioners can practice right at home, nourishing joy and offering the collective energy of the sangha 24/7.
