St Michael's Retreat 12th Talk: Emptiness of Transmission and the Wisdom of Non-Discrimination
This title has been reviewed for accuracy.
Thầy talks about the thirteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth exercises of mindful breathing and how we practice them when we practice the Three Touchings of the Earth. Thầy explains their significance and how each Touching is related to the insight on emptiness of transmission, to the importance of touching positive aspects all around us and to nirvana. Thầy tells us that to touch nirvana we need to practice inclusiveness, to see that everything around us inter-is.
Furthermore, Thầy explains the difference between lokadhātu and dharmadhātu, terms used to speak about the world of reality, how they are connected to the wisdom of non-discrimination, of equanimity and the importance of cultivating this seed, present in all of us, in our daily life using various examples. Thầy also touches on the notion of life span and how we should throw that concept away, according to Master Tăng Hội and see that nothing is created and nothing dies, just like we recite in the Heart Sutra, there is only transformation. Then Thầy starts explaining the implicate order and explicate order, however the last part of the talk is missing.
This is the twelfth talk in a series given during The Path of Emancipation, twenty-one-day retreat in the year 1998. Thay offered this talk at St. Michael’s College, Burlington, Vermont, in the United States.
