Sutra on the Enjoyment of the Ultimate Dimension 6
Dharma Teacher Phap Luu shared that the electronic temple is operating well, with the Dharma talk being listened to simultaneously by many people around the world in both Vietnamese and English. The Paris Sangha has 300 lay friends participating in the winter retreat at home, keeping the precepts, reciting the precepts, listening to Dharma talks, practicing walking meditation, and sitting meditation just as in the monastery. In the first week of the retreat, practitioners learn the practice of listening to the bell; in the second week, they learn how to make prostrations. Those who are new should review so they know how to listen to the bell and prostrate correctly.
The practice of Plum Village is to find happiness in each moment of daily life: when sitting, walking, breathing, brushing teeth, rinsing the mouth, cleaning the meditation hall, or preparing breakfast. Each day has 24 hours, each hour 60 minutes—how can we generate joy and happiness in every moment? When suffering arises, we accept it, but we do not stop there; we learn how to transform suffering into a source of insight and deep lessons. Suffering and happiness are like mud and lotus, they cannot be separated.
When inviting the bell, we bow to the bell first out of gratitude, knowing that the sound of the bell is like a Bodhisattva awakening us to live mindfully. A mindful step can also become a bell for others, inspiring them to take gentle, relaxed steps, full of joy and happiness. Thanks to mindfulness, we can recognize our habit energies of anxiety and haste, gently say to them, “Hello mommy, I know you are there,” and let go, returning to ease. Each person is an ambassador of their lineage and history; only with insight and concentration can we recognize that deep connection and live with true peace.
