Talk for Children
This talk details the final Dharma Talk of the summer session on August 3rd, 2008, focusing on interconnectedness and mindfulness. Reflecting on a recent retreat in Italy with 800 participants including 50 children, everyone received a corn seed symbolizing interconnectedness. Thay invited participants to plant the seed and witness its growth, symbolizing transformation and patience. The growth of plants mirrors our growth and interconnectedness. A diligent student followed Thay’s guidance, observing corn growth daily, grasping profound truths of interbeing, impermanence, and non-self. Reflecting on beginnings as seeds nurtured by parents, the talk emphasizes avoiding violence, harmful habits, and fostering love, mindfulness, understanding, compassion, and positivity. Aspiring parents are encouraged to nurture future children with care, mindfulness, and love, remembering roots connected to parents within, fostering peace, reconciliation, kindness, and understanding through meditation. Teach children to honor roots by bowing when hearing the bell, fostering unity and joy.
