Teacher, Please Give Me a Teacher
In 2010 at Phap Van Temple, during the monastic retreat season, the transmission within the insight of the Buddha’s way includes three elements that are simultaneously one:
- the one who transmits
- the one who receives
- the object of transmission
Contemplating the body is to see father, mother, and ancestors present in every cell, to recognize the stream of transmission—happiness, suffering, and aspirations of our parents continue in us. Similarly, the Buddha transmits the Buddha to us through the precious Dharma body; the teacher transmits the teacher to us through his teachings, his way of walking, sitting, and relating.
Living together is to build brotherhood; each step on the path, each breath, can become a legend when:
- we walk mindfully and at ease (with the rhythm 2-3, 3-5, 4-6…)
- we contemplate the breath—dwelling happily in the present moment—deeply connecting with the present moment
- we nourish the Buddha within through daily practice, so that the Dharma body shines throughout the day and together we build a common work such as the Vinaya Hall, sharing experiences in organizing retreats, ceremonies, and caring for the Sangha.
