The Best Gift Our Love Ones
The foundation of happiness is the capacity of understanding and compassion, which is cultivated through the energy of mindfulness in the here and now. True love requires looking deeply to understand the difficulties, pain, and deepest aspirations of the person we love. To restore communication and remove wrong perceptions, we practice deep, compassionate listening—listening without judging, criticizing, or reacting, with the sole purpose of helping the other person empty their heart—and loving speech, or Right Speech.
The greatest gift we can offer is our true presence, which is realized by bringing the mind back to the body through mindful breathing and walking. This presence is expressed through two love mantras:
- Darling, I am here for you.
-
Darling, I know you are there, and I am very happy.
Self-love and self-understanding are the foundations for loving another. By going home to ourselves, we accept ourselves as we are, care for our own anger and fear, and stop craving external recognition.
Establishing ourselves in the present moment allows us to get in touch with the three times: the past, the present, and the future. By handling the present moment with Right Thinking, Right Speech, and Right Action, we can heal the past and build the future. To protect our well-being, we must practice mindful consumption of the first two of the four nutriments:
- Edible food, which must be consumed mindfully to preserve compassion and avoid destroying ourselves and the environment.
- Sensorial impressions, which include what we see, hear, read, and think, requiring the skin of mindfulness to protect us from toxins and water only our positive seeds.
