The Eleventh Mindfulness Training of Plum Village
The details of this talk focus on the Treatise on the Ten Stages, specifically the eleventh stage concerning mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom, considering it the core of practicing the Buddha’s teachings. To attain liberation, one must practice the threefold training of mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom. When one reaches the stage of no more learning, it means the practice is perfected, and there is no need to learn anymore. Mindfulness is the source of energy that illuminates life, helping to maintain mindfulness in all daily activities. Thich Nhat Hanh emphasizes that maintaining mindfulness helps avoid forgetfulness and live with awareness. He explains that mindfulness is like the electric current that activates all the cells in the body, similar to the Bose-Einstein Condensate principle where all atoms operate in unison. He also connects Buddhism and science, emphasizing that understanding impermanence, non-self, and interdependence is crucial. He mentions that the precepts in Buddhism are like traffic laws, helping to maintain mindfulness and avoid danger. He concludes by emphasizing that keeping the precepts with joy and pride is the way to maintain true mindfulness.
