The Fourteen Precepts of Plum Village 12-15: Precepts-Diligence-Suffering
The details of this talk include an explanation that precepts and mindfulness are concrete expressions of mindfulness, originating from the nature of mindfulness. Thich Nhat Hanh emphasizes that precepts need to be presented in the form of mindfulness to avoid becoming restrictive and losing freedom. He introduces the Four Right Efforts, which include recognizing negative influences and stopping their development by replacing them with positive ones. He mentions the three fundamental principles in Buddhism: embracing precepts, embracing meditation practices, and embracing sentient beings. He explains that practice needs to maintain mindfulness and precepts, helping to achieve happiness and liberation by recognizing the conditions of existing happiness and avoiding wrongful actions. He concludes by explaining that recognizing suffering helps maintain happiness and seeks ways to continue happiness without falling into suffering, while also needing to view everything in the light of mindfulness practice.
