Maitri meditation brings two essential results:

  • On the positive side, the substance of loving-kindness
    1. Penetrates and nourishes body and mind
    2. Brings joy and happiness to oneself and those around
  • On the negative side, it unties the knots of suffering, liberating ourselves and others from the bonds of anger, hatred, and forgetfulness
Right in the moment of practicing with mindfulness—whether in walking meditation, sitting meditation, or silent eating—the ropes binding the mind are immediately loosened, bringing about joy and liberation. These two realities are like living beings that need to be continuously maintained by the daily practice of mindful living.

  2. Samaññaphala: The sweet fruit of monastic life—restoring human dignity, security, and freedom
  3. Ambattha: Nobility does not come from bloodline or caste but from virtue and insight
  4. Sonadanda: Of the five conditions for an “exemplary Brahmin,” only precepts and insight remain essential
  5. Kūṭadanta: The most effective offering is to support precepts, concentration, and insight—not animal sacrifice
