The Practice of Love
The details of this discussion focus on love in Buddhism, centered around the four Brahmaviharas: maitri (loving-kindness), karuna (compassion), mudita (joy), and upeksha (equanimity). Maitri involves offering joy and happiness without discrimination, which is essential in the Noble Eightfold Path, including right view, right thinking, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Deeply understanding the other is essential for truly loving. The practice of mindfulness helps to avoid suffering and to offer understanding. True love requires mastery, capacity, and understanding, bringing shared happiness. Cultivating equitable parental love and offering help to all those in need is essential. Equanimity and freedom are essential in true love, allowing happiness and authenticity. Cultivating love according to the Brahmaviharas brings one closer to God or the Kingdom of God. A walking meditation together will help cultivate these teachings.
