• The Lotus Sutra teaches four purposes:

  1. Opening – opening up for the listener, breaking apart the “blocks of ignorance” and bringing them to a new horizon;
  2. Showing – pointing out and making clear the reality, drawing back the curtain so we can see through what is hidden;
  3. Awakening – awakening, so that we “wake up” and recognize the truth that is already present all around us;
  4. Entering – entering deeply into that reality, sharing, integrating, and living fully with the Buddha’s insight (the vision and happiness of the Buddha).

• Application in the arts and Dharma talks consists of two steps:

  1. Opening and showing – helping the reader/listener to see the suffering of themselves and of society;
  2. Healing – opening the path of liberation, clearly showing the path of liberation (the path of truth), so that the mind can be at peace.
