• The Lotus Sutra teaches four purposes:
- Opening – opening up for the listener, breaking apart the “blocks of ignorance” and bringing them to a new horizon;
- Showing – pointing out and making clear the reality, drawing back the curtain so we can see through what is hidden;
- Awakening – awakening, so that we “wake up” and recognize the truth that is already present all around us;
- Entering – entering deeply into that reality, sharing, integrating, and living fully with the Buddha’s insight (the vision and happiness of the Buddha).
• Application in the arts and Dharma talks consists of two steps:
- Opening and showing – helping the reader/listener to see the suffering of themselves and of society;
- Healing – opening the path of liberation, clearly showing the path of liberation (the path of truth), so that the mind can be at peace.
