To Practice is to Know How to Live 2
The future of Vietnam is made from the substance of the present: the way we live, treat each other, and maintain peace, happiness, and clear seeing. If today there is no more anger, division, or misunderstanding, and if each family and community knows how to practice, to maintain good communication, then the country will move toward a bright future.
To nourish and offer love requires four inner qualities:
- freshness
- solidity
- peace
- freedom and ease
True love in the Buddha’s teaching contains four elements:
- maitri (loving kindness) – the capacity to bring happiness
- karuna (compassion) – to lighten and transform suffering
- mudita (joy) – sharing joy, not drowning in suffering
- upeksha (equanimity) – letting go of the boundary between “self” and “other” so that happiness and suffering are no longer individual possessions
