Vietnam Tour at Phap Van Temple
The wind continues to blow as a reminder of mindful breathing, opening the Dharma talk with a gentle song, followed by the chanting of the Ten Great Vows of Samantabhadra – excerpted from the chapter “The Practices and Vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva” in the Avatamsaka Sutra, which has become a popular daily chant in Vietnamese temples. The sutra consists of four main parts:
- Paying homage to all Buddhas of the three times in the ten directions
- Praising the virtues of the Tathagata
- Making vast offerings with the mind – garlands of flowers, music, robes, incense, lamps…
- Repenting karmic obstacles and Sharing the Merit with the Three Jewels
Next is the song “Finding Each Other” – with lyrics composed by Thay and music by Anh Viet – expressing the journey of seeking and recognizing the World-Honored One as the inexhaustible source of peace. In the final part, Thay shares about the Plum Village Sangha: more than 250 young monastics from 18 nationalities, practicing and meditating together to transform suffering and serve the community. Thay also proposes to transform Phap Van Temple into a practice center following the Plum Village model, hoping to receive the support and companionship of the lay community.
