The Sea After the Storm - Thay Comments on Le Thuong's Poem
The work Biển sau giông tố (The Sea After the Storm) by composer Lê Thương expresses the pain of the nation and the tragedy of 75,000 boat people who perished in the depths of the ocean. Despair is the greatest enemy of human beings when caught in a dead end. To help writers, artists, and scholars back home overcome despair and continue to create, the practice community at Phương Vân Am sent Western medicine along with letters to uplift their spirits through manifestations such as Phương Hương, Angelina, Cô Chín, Dì Năm, and Đào Thị Mây.
To rescue those crossing the sea, the campaign Máu chảy ruột mềm (When Blood Flows, the Heart Aches) was organized in Singapore starting in late 1976, using the ships:
- Roland
- Leapdal
- Koozara
- Saigon 200
The presence of Vietnamese people in the West has two purposes:
- To learn the good and the beautiful of the outside world in order to transmit it back to our homeland, to our country.
- To share with the people here the good and the beautiful of our own culture.
