When you see the wrong things in the other person, it means also that you cannot see the good things in that person. Because a person should have strength and weakness at the same time. And when you look at one person and you see only the wrong things, there is something wrong with your perception, we have to tell you.
And then if you have wrong perception, you would not have a correct perception of yourself. You don't know what are your strengths and your weaknesses at the same time. So the problem is how to learn to look more deeply. That is meditation. Meditation means the art of looking deeply. And if you want to look deeply, you have to train to be mindful, to have concentration. Because you cannot look deeply unless you have mindfulness and concentration.

I look at the year 2000 as a bell of mindfulness. Because it helped me to be aware how precious the days and the months are. So that is a way of looking only. It's not because that year is very special, but it is like a bell of mindfulness. When you think of it, you know that time is passing by very quickly and you know how to get deeper in each moment of your life so that your life will be more meaningful and you would know what to do and what not to do in order to improve the quality of your life and the quality of the life of the people around you.

I try to become more alive. I try to use meditation to become more alive. But I find that sometimes I'm losing myself in the object of meditation. So what can you do to not lose yourself in the object of meditation?
Meditation is made of two elements. The first element is calming the mind. It also has the effect of focusing your mind on one thing. That is called śamatha. Śamatha means concentrating, calming, stopping. And you focus your mind in just one thing, like your steps, your breath.
Because concentration means concentration on something. You cannot just concentrate on nothing. Mindfulness is mindfulness of something. You cannot just become mindful of nothing. So practicing mindfulness, you have to get an object.
Suppose you are focusing your attention on your in-breath. So your breathing is the object of your mindfulness. That is concentrated mindfulness. And when you generate the energy of mindfulness, you have that kind of energy in order to embrace, to keep alive that object of your attention.
Sometimes when you look into a flower, the flower becomes the object of your mindfulness. The flower becomes the object of your concentration. And if you continue, you'll be able
