Business Retreat
“I have arrived. I am home” is practiced in every moment—walking, sitting, even driving—to bring us fully into the present, living happily in the here and the now (Sanskrit: dṛṣṭadharma-sukhavihāra). By returning to our true home at each in-breath and out-breath, we discover conditions of happiness already around us and cease running after the future.
The full gatha has four lines:
- I have arrived. I am home.
- In the here, in the now.
- I am solid. I am free.
- In the ultimate I dwell.
Each line:
- Establishes presence and joy in the present moment.
- Cultivates solidity (groundedness) and freedom (from regret and fear).
- Reveals our ultimate nature—like a wave that is water—touching nirvana, the Buddha-land, or the kingdom of God here and now.
As bodhisattvas in family and business, we apply mindfulness in three “circles”:
- Self – nourish with life’s wonders and embrace our own suffering.
- Family – practice deep listening and loving speech to transform pain and build joy.
-
Enterprise – extend the same care to workers through:
• Total relaxation sessions
• Mindful breathing, walking and use of bells or music
• Deep listening, loving speech and support circles (Sangha)
• Observance of Uposatha days
All grounded in the Four Recollections (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, Mindfulness Trainings) and the Five Mindfulness Trainings, as exemplified by Sudatta Anāthapiṇḍika and modern enterprises like Canon.
