Celebrating Ten Years of Practicing Meditation in Our Homeland Vietnam
In the ten years after returning from thirty years abroad, Venerable Quang Phung Thich Tri Nguyen journeyed throughout the country with boundless compassion, undaunted by adversity or praise and blame. In the Mekong Delta, he offered relief to flood victims by:
- Building concrete bridges to replace monkey bridges and distributing small boats;
- Giving charity houses to poor families;
- Supporting eye surgeries for victims of polluted water in Dong Thap;
- Visiting and offering gifts to lonely elders, orphans, and people with disabilities.
At the same time, Thay wholeheartedly guided living beings by restoring and building many Buddhist sites: celebrating Vesak, laying the foundation stone for Thien Quang Temple (Quoc Oai, Ha Tay), restoring Dau Pagoda, visiting Huong Pagoda, Linh Son Van Phuc, Tu Dam, Hung Long, and others. Together with the Linh Son Phap Quoc Sangha, Thay established a charitable polyclinic—the forerunner of the first Buddhist hospital in Binh Duong.
All activities demonstrate the practice of gentleness and patience, the Four Embracing Virtues (giving, loving speech, beneficial action, and sharing the same work), and the aspiration: “As long as there is even one being still suffering, I vow not to become a Buddha.” Thay quietly overcame challenges, with the sole intention of helping his homeland suffer less, so that the people may live in peace and happiness, and the Dharma may always be propagated.
