I Know You Are There and I Am So Happy
A long time ago—I don’t know when that was, maybe ten years ago or more—I said that the next Buddha that will appear to us may take the form of a Sangha rather than an individual. Because the 21st century demands collective practice—from family to global community—we are called to cultivate the Saṅghakāya (Sangha body), which carries the Buddha and the Dharma in four bodies within us:
- physical body
- Buddha body (mindfulness giving rise to concentration, insight, compassion, loving-kindness)
- Dharma body (the way of transformation, healing, deep looking, loving)
- Sangha body (our community of refuge, support, and Sangha building)
Samatha (calming meditation) is truly the art of
- stopping (forgetfulness, habit energies, inner agitation and conflict)
- calming (powerful emotions, war within, contagious anger)
- healing (allowing body and mind to rest)
- resting (the precondition for transformation and liberation)
As a practical invocation of loving-kindness, every step can become a healing, resting practice. With the sticker “I walk for you” on your left shoe, coordinate breath and step in slow, mindful walking—preparing the ground for Maitreya, the Buddha of love, and strengthening our Sangha body together.
