We recognize the miracle of existence through simple images: the call to eat from a child, the mist over the Bamboo Garden, the school of fish in the morning sunlight; green leaves, yellow buds, petals trembling in the sun symbolize the ceaseless arising of life. The Bodhisattva and the Dharma—the listener and the speaker—are born together in the present moment, connecting life and death with each breath. Drinking clear well water, listening to the vast ocean waves, our body is like a dragon wave, water and flower—this body is not different.

Mindfulness of the Three Jewels—Buddha, Dharma, Sangha—is the fundamental refuge for diligent practice, preserving great merit by avoiding evil, being close to virtuous people, honoring the venerable; practicing the precepts, speaking loving words; being filial to parents; giving, maintaining a pure life; being diligent, awake, learning and realizing Nirvana. The greatest happiness is a mind unshaken amidst life, afflictions dissolved, dwelling peacefully in tranquility.

Plum Village is the human Pure Land, where the community practices mindfulness through sitting meditation, walking meditation, eating in silence, picking flowers as offerings, practicing the Water Daffodil festival and Tet traditions—bowing to ancestors and then embracing one another, Hugging Meditation within the family. From four to ten practitioners is enough to establish a sangha, nurturing happiness; training Dharma teachers for four years to expand the practice centers, transforming each family into a Pure Land, sowing seeds of peace for all beings.
