During the 2004 Rainy Season Retreat at Deer Park Monastery (January 4 – March 14), the monastic and lay community gathered in the Ocean of Peace Meditation Hall for a 76-minute Dharma talk on Wednesday, January 28, 2004. This session is devoted to questions and answers from retreat attendees:
- A dream and a sacred story—“practice means enjoyment”—raised by an author of children’s books.

- Sangha-building and conflict: where individual practice meets collective practice, harmony within the Sangha, the seven steps of reconciliation, and using the Vinaya to build a lay Sangha.
- Working with children and adults with severe disabilities: handling the negativity that arises and whether to include it when writing about their experiences.
- Engaged action: our role and contribution in reducing suffering, especially through social-justice work.
